Girl Walk // All Day
Girl Walk // All Day is a Kickstarter-funded, feature-length dance music video and tale of urban exploration that follows three dancers across New York City. Probably one of the only cities in the world where you can dance in public and be ignored by practically everyone.
Directed by Jacob Krupnick and set to music by music-mashup genius Girl Talk (Gregg Gillis), the film will be released in...

To Each Their Own
I imagine there’s a time in everyone’s career when they take stock of where they’ve come from, where they are and most likely where they see themselves heading. At least, that’s been the case for me over the past few months, and it’s given me the opportunity to remember and appreciate why I chose design/development/programming/engineering, whatever label you want to...

Like a Rolling Stone, 1966
Bob Dylan playing “Like a Rolling Stone” live in 1966. When I think about the period he was writing this music, and the mood of the nation in those years, it just blows my mind. With youthful cynicism, it became a social commentary that arguably lifted Dylan to his iconic status; His song resonating for decades throughout the world.
What is the music written now saying about the...

magneticNorth / Beep Industries
A Computer Arts episode of Studio Life featuring old friends back home, magneticNorth and Beep Industries.
I worked at mN for nearly three years, and that never-surrender attitude for quality - and the importance of enjoying what you do - has stuck with me ever since.
‘‘ Don’t go there - come here, we’re going to change the world! ’’

A Time Lapse from Space
A wonderful time-lapse of Earth from the International Space Station - 18 passes that capture every continent through day and night, including several showcases of Aurora Borealis - a high altitude, naturally occurring light display.
It’s great to see NASA sharing this kind of content to spark the public’s imagination in space exploration once more.

Above The Dust
A great off-road biking video from Leo Zuckerman, filmed at the Whistler Bike Park. Music from The Glitch Mob.
Looks like some amazing terrain to ride. I’ve added it to my list.

Bill Cunningham New York
An inspiring documentary on the 50 year career of Bill Cunningham, a fashion photographer for the New York Times, his bicycle and his camera. Bill’s dedication to his craft is simply mind-blowing.
‘‘More than anyone else in the city, Bill has the whole visual history of the last 40 or 50 years of New York. It’s the total scope of fashion in the life of New York.’’

Redesigning the Boarding Pass
An exploration into designing a more effective boarding pass. What a great idea.
I truly can’t understand why they exist in their current state. That’s not just the designer in me speaking. It comes from being a frequent traveller too. A boarding pass isn’t just a boarding pass; It’s also an itinerary of sorts - where is my plane? What time should I be there? Will I be...

Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs sadly passed away today at 56 from complications of pancreatic cancer. He’d been battling the illness for a number of years. No doubt many suspected he was unwell, given his medical history and recent announcement to step down as CEO, but it’s naturally sent shockwaves through the tech industry and media alike.
Jobs was a fascinating personality to me, as I’m sure...

Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits is over for another year! This was the first year Mira and I attended, having got tickets for Friday and Sunday (we can’t admit to being Stevie Wonder fans, and skipped Saturday).
Honestly, I don’t think the line-up was nearly as strong when compared to previous years, which surprised me given that this year is the 10th anniversary of ACL. On Friday, we got there...

Paris
Our first trip to Paris was great, although I feel a little bad that - after living in England for 25 years - it took moving to Texas before I made it across the channel!
We travelled from London via Eurostar, and stayed at La Belle Juliette, a lovely hotel in the heart of Saint Germain des Pres. I was immediately impressed by the architecture - I adore and miss old stone work.
My personal...

Play Me, I'm Yours
I was taking a break from riding when this guy killed it on the piano next to Town Lake. The piano is one of many dotted around Austin, part of a city-wide interactive Art installation called “Play Me, I’m Yours”.
Apologies for the shakiness, I just got off the bike!
Having lived in Austin for two months, I see at least one moment a day that puts a smile on my face.

Snowmobiling in Utah
Mira and I took a trip snowmobiling around The Canyons, Utah. Here we’re taking a break 1.5 miles up and it was hard to catch our breath, literally. The trails were like a scene from Narnia. My favorite day during our trip to Park City, looking forward to more next year.
